María Estelí Jarquin has led international strategies for scientific organisations across Europe and Latin America. She was recently elected to the Governing Board of the International Science Council (ISC), where she co-chairs a report on Science Diplomacy. She is currently International Relations Manager at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. Previously, María served as Deputy Director of International Affairs at the University of Costa Rica, leading its global strategy, and was an expert in the EU Science Diplomacy Working Groups. She has also consulted for several UN agencies. A TEDx speaker, María has delivered talks at high-level global forums, including the UN Summit of the Future and the SDG Summit. She is a Chevening Scholar with a master’s in science, technology, and public policy from University College London. She founded and chairs OWSD Costa Rica, is an alumna of the AAAS–TWAS Science Diplomacy program, and speaks English, Spanish, and French.
