Marcus Pleyer is State Secretary (Deputy Minister) in the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. He has worked for the German government in several functions, inter alia as senior advisor in Angela Merkel’s Chancellery during the 2008 financial crisis and as head of Federal Finance Minister Schaeuble’s office during the Euro debt crisis. He has been representing his government in various supervisory boards of financial institutions and performed a number of special roles such as President of the global organisation against money laundering and terrorism financing FATF and as special advisor to the Ukrainian Finance Minister in Kyiv. Marcus started his career in public service as a lecturer in constitutional law at the university of Dresden. He holds a law degree from the University of Heidelberg, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Edinburgh, a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Wales and a PhD from the University of Dresden.
