Dr Monika Szkarłat is a political scientist and specialist in intellectual property law whose research interests focus on science diplomacy in the European Union and the Arctic, as well as the legal and societal dimensions of artificial intelligence. She is based at the Institute of Political Science and Administration at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, and is also affiliated with the University’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Computer Modelling. Dr Szkarłat serves as a member of the Presidium of the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Chair of the Social and Human Working Group of the International Arctic Science Committee, and as an expert in the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Arctic Council. Her academic and professional engagement combines political science, law, and the study of emerging technologies, with particular attention to their role in international cooperation, governance, and knowledge transfer.
