Sverre Ole
DRØNEN

Since 2011, Sverre Ole Drønen has advised the leadership and research community at the University of Bergen (UiB) on science communications and global relations. He has been one of the driving forces in the university’s engagement with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, Life Below Water, and is the United Nations Academic Impact SDG14 Hub Chair Lead since 2018. Before joining UiB he worked for major media outlets in Norway for close to 20 years. He was part of the innovative SDG Bergen (2018-2021) and co-organised the annual SDG Conference Bergen. Drønen was handpicked for the SDG Bergen team as head of its communications and outreach activity and has been involved in several high-level UN events, including the three UN Ocean Conferences: 2017 in New York, 2022 in Lisbon, and most recently June 2025 in Nice, where he co-organised an official side event on ocean science diplomacy.
